Navigating the Research Process In NBMLHD
Do you want to learn how to navigate the ethics and governance processes in NBMLHD? Join us in this interactive session and take away some valuable tips to assist you in your research applications.
Marietta Coutinho, Manager, Research Ethics and Governance, NBMLHD
Mrs Coutinho worked for NSW Health from 1988 to 2007, at RPA, Westmead and Nepean Hospitals, managing Admin teams, research groups and running medical student rotations. She was the Nepean HREC Executive Officer from 2001 to 2007, where she very successfully streamlined HREC systems and processes to meet standards required by NSW Health. This resulted in the Nepean HREC gaining accreditation as a Lead HREC in NSW, in all areas of research: clinical trials/interventional research, health services and qualitative research.
She moved to Sydney University in 2007 to take up a newly created position as D/Manager Ethics for about three years, followed by a 7-year stint in the Private Sector as Manager Research and Operations, until Nov. 2017.
Marietta returned to NBMLHD in Nov. 2017 to take up this newly created position as Manager Research Ethics and Governance in the Research Office. She has a Bachelors in Economics, a Graduate Diploma in Health Services Management, has attended numerous short courses, workshops, seminars and training days in Research Ethics and Governance conducted by NSW Health, the NHMRC and the private sector. She brings vast knowledge and experience to this role.
Marietta will be conducting this workshop along with the Research Office team and will take questions regarding navigating the research process in NBMLHD.
Penny Mahairas, Ethics Officer, Research Office, NBMLHD
Mrs Mahairas has been with NSW Health since 1994. She worked as a Clinical Trials Coordinator in Hamtology & Australasian Leukaemia & Lymphoma Groups Data Manager in the Bone Marrow Tranlspant Unit at Westmead Hospital for 10 years. She then commencedin NBMLHD in 2006. She worked as a Clincial Trials Study Cooridiator at Nepean Cancer Centre – Haematology until 2016. She then took on the role of HREC Executive Officer for NBMLHD.
Having completed her HSC in 1987, Bachelor of Science in 1991, Diploma of Education in 1992 and a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Traisl Practice in 2013. She is currenly studying with Praxis Australia, Research Essentials: Devloping Excellence in Research Design and Practice.
Mrs Mahairas will be conducting this workshop and taking your through the essential steps in navigtating the research process.
Gina Oliver, Research Governance Officer, NBMLHD
Gina has worked in NSW Health since 2015. Prior to working in Health, Gina worked in the Pharmaceutical industry as a clinical research associate and senior clinical research associate in Australia and clinical project leader in Sweden. She also worked as a Lab Manager and Research Assistant in Pharmacology and Vet Physiology at the University of Sydney.
She has completed a BSc Hons and MSc at the Univerversity of Sydney and a Graduate Diploma at Maquarie University.
