Associate Professor Stephen Fuller practices as a Clinical Haematologist at Nepean Hospital and is a Member of the Nepean and Blue Mountains Local Health District Board and Deputy Chair of the Nepean Hospital Senior Medical Officers Council. A/Prof Fuller is currently Chair of the Haematology Teaching Block, Sydney Graduate Medical Program; Sub Dean of Early Career Research, SMS Nepean; Deputy Chair of the University of Sydney Human Research Ethics Committee; and Chair of the Deputy Chair Review Committee.He has previously served as the Postgraduate Co-ordinator and MD program Co-ordinator at SMS Nepean.
A/Prof Fuller’s research interests include the study of chronic lymphocytic leukaemia genetics and the roles of the P2X7 purinergic receptor in the immune response to infectious pathogens and cancer. He is a research group leader at Sydney Medical School Nepean, and currently oversees a team consisting of Research Associates, PhD and MD students.
A/Prof Fuller is actively engaged with local, state and federal government representatives, business and community groups to support medical research and teaching at SMS Nepean. He has delivered presentations to local Rotary groups, patient support groups and business groups.His vision for research and education at SMS Nepean is to develop multi-disciplinary, cross-faculty, mental health, infectious diseases, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer Strategic Priority Areas for Collaboration (SPARCs) strategically located in Western Sydney. This research will be integrated with teaching, providing opportunities for graduate students to participate in studies focused on research of national and international importance.
